Tanner Trick-or-Treating Event

Monday, November 3, 2008

Friday, October 31, 2008 Tanner hosted trick-or-treating for Tanner employee’s and their families. This was a very fun event! The turn out was great and we were able to see a lot of creative and even some scary costumes! The kids that came dressed up were able to go trick-or-treating at the desks and offices of the employees that were participating. We had some Halloween themed cookies and Apple Cider to go with the event. We look forward to having this event again in the future.

Tanner LC Softball!

Update provided by Toby P.

Our softball season came to a close last Wednesday night as we faced off against Hansen, Barnett & Maxwell. We played well throughout the night except for one inning in which they gained an advantage over us that we were not able to make up. Due to the loss we finished the season in Second Place to HBM. We had an outstanding season and were just shy of finishing undefeated. Congratulations go to Broc T. who took the men’s leading hitter title for the league. Thanks again to all who participated this year. We had a great time and we’ll do it again next year.

Tanner LC Softball Update!

Monday, September 29, 2008

Update provided by Quade R.

Last Wednesday night the Tanner softball team faced what might be the toughest test of the season thus far as they clashed with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The game started off in a dead heat as both teams traded early leads and great defensive plays. Eventually, the Tanner team members turned up the offensive heat and jumped out to a 10-6 lead at the end of the 5th inning. PWC would not go gentle into that good night and in the top half of the 6th inning usurped the lead after scoring 6 runs. With time running out, Tanner had 3 final outs to regain the lead. Clutch hitting from the middle and bottom of the order pushed one run across and yet another. The game was tied, runners on the corners, and one out. One final hit, perfectly lobbed over the outstretched glove of the shortstop, brought home the 3rd and winning run of the inning. And there was much rejoice. Congratulations goes out to all who participated in pulling out a stellar win.

The season is quickly coming to a close. Two games remaining! Good luck team!

Tanner LC Soccer Championship Game!

Monday, September 8, 2008

Update by Nic B.

Last Tuesday night we played against the Cougar Club for the league championship. After a rough start to the season, Tanner pulled through and came into the finals with a strong winning streak throughout the playoff series. We started the game with 0 subs against a Cougar Club with 6 subs ready to come off the bench. Within the first few minutes 3 more of our guys showed up to help us out. The game was intense, rough, and riddled with bruises, cuts, and broken legs (ok, slightly exaggerated on the broken legs). Needless to say, all of us were intent on reliving the High School glory days.

We will keep the final score between those who showed up for the game ;) But we are pleased to announce that Tanner finished the season in second place. Yep, that’s right, SECOND PLACE, YO!! Thanks for a great season! We look forward to starting up again in a couple of weeks.

Tanner LC Softball

Update by Toby P.

We played our second game of the season on Wednesday night and we are happy to report that we are still undefeated. The game got off to a bit of a slow start and by the second inning we were down 4 to 1. That is when the Tanner bats lit up! Everyone had great hits including two in-the-park home runs from Jeff H. and Toby P. Thanks in part to a few unforced errors on the part of the other team and our great batting skills we ran the score up to 20 to 4. At that point the umpire stopped the game in the middle of our batting so that they could get the next game started. We have a great team this year and we are looking forward to continuing a great season. Our next game is Wednesday at 9:30 where we will take on Digital Works.

Tanner Soccer Team Update!!

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Update provided by Nic B.

Huge congratulation goes out to Jeff H., Quade R,, Caleb M. and Jake D.for the big win. Typically we play with 6 on the field, but still came out with victory only having those 4 players. Ok….ok…..the other team didn’t have anyone show up, and they forfeited, but this still puts us into the 2nd round of the playoffs. Nic B. showed up in time for us to have a 5-man practice session and each scored about 20 goals. 100 total goals is a new Tanner record in one night! With this week’s victory, we are now in the second round of the playoffs.

Good job team on using this opportunity to practice your skills and good luck in the playoffs!

Tanner Soccer Team Update

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Update provided by Nic B.

I regret to inform everyone that the 2 game winning streak for the soccer team ended last night against the 1st place team. Here is a recap on our last two games.

August 5 - We were off to a slow start in this game and went down a couple of goals before the half. With fewer subs than normal we were wearing down quickly. The second half was a TX (Tanner Extreme) Rally and with goals from Caleb, Jacob and others we were ahead with only a few minutes left in the game. Outrun by a bunch of accountants, the other team was worn to a frazzle. Great defense, and great goal-keeping (James Hinckle) led to a scoreless last few minutes and secured the comeback victory.

August 12 - Last night we played Quicksilver, the first place team. The game started off pretty evenly matched. We were down 2-1 and given a PK opportunity……GOALLLLLLLLLLLLL! The game was tied 2-2. A few minutes later, their quick offense scored again. Nephi, who usually plays in the midfield, was moonlighting on the front line and drove a powerful one-touch to the left side of the keeper to tie it up again. We went neck-and-neck the remainder of the game going up by one, then tied, then down by one, then tied. The first place team couldn’t shake us and were worried of losing their undefeated standing. At the end of the game their tight man-to-man defense thwarted some of our offensive plays and we suffered a 5-7 loss. Hard fought, and tired, we proved we could hold our own with the best in the league.

Summer Company Party!!!

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

By Jannette R.

This year’s Tanner LC Summer Party was a family affair full of good food, fun activities and great company.

Team members and their families went to Noah’s in Lindon, Utah and had access to the entire first floor. This included a game room with pool and ping pong tables, wallyball and raquetball courts, main hall for dining and an outside patio area and lawn. We enjoyed delicious hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimings, salads, brownies, cookies, snow cones, and fresh popcorn. A balloon artist was on site and available to create whatever the kids requested. There were also coloring contests, kids musical mats, adult musical chairs, and an inflatable obstacle course. It sees that musical chairs and obsticle courses bring out the competitive nature. Prizes were awarded.

This was a fun chance for all of the team member’s and their families to get together and have a great time. Thanks to the Partners for having this event!

Why join the Tanner Team? - Part II

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Here are some more reasons why our GREAT team members chose Tanner LC:

“I chose Tanner LC over other firms because I felt they fit my personality. Previous to accepting a position with Tanner LC I spent time with the different firms that were recruiting on the SUU campus. I tried to evaluate how I related to the individuals from the different firms and chose the one I felt was the best fit for me. Also, what appealed to me most about Tanner LC is their commitment to being the best at what they do and their eagerness to invest in me and help me be the best. I am now on my second month with Tanner LC and know I made the right choice for me and my family.”

-Jeremy B., Audit Department

“I joined Tanner because they really care about their employees and they have great training opportunities which will help me advance in my career.”

-Christina E., Audit Department

“The reason I joined Tanner LC was due to the friendly and organized atmosphere.”

-James H., Audit Department

Tanner LC Soccer Team

Friday, August 1, 2008

Team update provided by Nic B.

Some of the many benefits of working for Tanner LC are the awesome activity opportunities that are available. This year we have a great soccer team. We are 4 games into the season now and put up our first win on Tuesday night. We only had one sub until about half-time thanks to the I-15 closure. Special thanks goes out to Jake “the hat-trick” D. for scoring all of our goals in that game; to Quade “the brick-wall” R. for some amazing saves, and Scott “the oldest guy on the team” R. for controlling our mid-field. Our whole team played well on Tuesday night and it has been a lot of fun for all of us so far this season.

Good luck with the rest of the season team! We look forward to more great updates!

Why join the Tanner LC Team? - Part I

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

We at Tanner LC feel we have an excellent team and that Tanner LC is a great place to work. We asked some of our employees, mostly new hire employees, why they wanted to join the Tanner LC Team. Here are what a few of them said:

I joined Tanner because it provided me with the best opportunity for growth and experience in Utah. Also Tanner’s work-life balance is unmatched by other firms.”

- Jake D., Audit Department

“I joined Tanner LC because I could see that the tax practice here provides experience with great clients and that it is still growing fast, providing a unique opportunity for career development. I was excited to work for one of the largest accounting firms in the area without the restricting oversight and numbers driven perspective of a national firm.”

- Jacob W., Tax Department

Keep looking for more posts from our employees on why they picked Tanner LC’s team!

Wasatch Back Relay

Monday, July 21, 2008

By: Mike E.

We had a Tanner Team participate in the Wasatch Back Relay that was held in June 2008. The Wasatch Back Relay is a 181 mile relay race from Logan to Park City. The Tanner Team finished the relay in 27 hours and 50 minutes. We were the 205th team to finish out of 545 teams. We were also the 20th team out of 52 in the Men’s corporate division and we beat all of the other accounting firm teams that participated in the relay.

Not bad for a bunch of accountants coming off of a busy season. No one died and there were no injuries apart from a few blisters and a lot of sore muscles. Overall this was a great experience for our team and we are proud of our results.
