Tanner LC and Capital Confidence Advisors had a great golf day up at the Homestead Resort last Thursday, May 28, 2009. The weather was beautiful and the company was very enjoyable. As you can see from the pictures below, this was a very fun and sucessful and enjoyable event!

The Tanner softball team played a great game last night against PWC winning 27 to 3. Needless to say, we all had a great time batting and played some good defense.

The Tanner softball season officially started off the season last week against a company called Access Development. We were down by one going into the bottom of the 5th inning, but then we finally got the Tanner bats going and we ended up winning the game 20 to 10.
Last nights game was of far more importance as we were facing off with the only team that beat us last year, Hansen, Barnett & Maxwell. We knew we had our work cut out for us when they hit a home-run in each of their first two at bats! We worked ourselves back into the game thanks to some very good batting from the team, some great defense, and a home-run of our own. By the final inning we were only down by a couple of points and we were able to pull out the 17 – 16 victory!
The Tanner team is now 2 – 0 on the season and we look forward to playing another great team, PWC, next Thursday.
Congratulations go out to Aaron T. for passing the CPA exam! He has passed all four parts of the exam as well as the AICPA Ethics exam and the Utah Law and Rules exam. This is a great accomplishment, and it is nice to have another new CPA at Tanner.

New Hire Spotlight - Ben B.
Ben is a new intern for our audit department. Ben has been married to his wife Natalie for 3 1/2 years and they have one daughter. He enjoys the outdoors, especially hiking, mountain biking, wake boarding and snowboarding. He also enjoys wood working. He is originally from Lehi, Utah. He feels very fortunate to be working towards his Master’s Degree at Brigham Young University and to have a wonderful wife and family. His favorite quote is, “I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stands with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong” - Abraham Lincoln.

New Employee Spotlight - Josh G.
Josh is a new audit team intern and is attending Southern Utah University. He goes snowboarding every chance he can. He likes to play basketball, baseball and golf. He hunts in the summer and loves to go wake boarding on the lake. He grew up in Midway, Utah. His greatest achievement is receiving his Bachelor’s Degree. His favorite quote is, “the heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.”

New Hire Spotlight - Michele J.
Michele is one of our newest audit staff members. Michele is married to Jeremy and they have two children. Her favorite things to spend her time playing games with her children, gardening, reading and camping. She is originally from Sacramento, CA. She served in the US Navy for 4 1/2 years, learning first electronics and then business related issues. Her favorite quote is, ” yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift that is why we call it the present.”

Newhire Spotlight - Joe H.
Joe H. is one of our newest Tanner team members and he will be serving as an audit staff member. He has been married to Natalie for over three years and he says that marrying her has been his greatest acheivement. He enjoys sports and is originally from Taylor, Utah. His favorite quote is “wear your own shoes and keep them polished.”

New Hire Spotlight - Michele G.
Michele has returned to our tax department. She is married to John and they have three sons and one dog. Michele enjoys golfing, skiing, yoga, reading and cooking. Michele is originally from Anaheim, CA where she lived until she was 16 and then she moved to Los Angeles, CA for 20 years. Her greatest ongoing achievement is raising three teenage boys relatively unscathed. Her favorite quote is “leave the gun; take the cannolis” from The Godfather.
We are thrilled to have Michele as a part of our team!
On January 5, 2009, we had five new team members begin their careers at Tanner. We are excited to have these individuals join our company and the public accounting profession and look forward to working with all of them.
Michele G. will be returning to our tax practice. Michele graduated from the University of Utah in December 2008.
Joe H. will begin his career at Tanner in our audit practice. Joe graduated from Weber State University in December 2008.
Michele J. will begin her career at Tanner in our audit practice. Michele graduated from Weber State University in December 2008.
Benjamin B. will undertake an internship in our audit practice. Benjamin will graduate from Brigham Young University in 2010. Benjamin enjoys woodworking, hiking, water sports, basketball and soccer.
Joshua G. will also intern in our audit practice. Joshua will graduate from Southern Utah University in May 2010.
We want to extend a warm welcome to these new employees and wish them great success in their careers.
Friday, December 12 was the Annual Tanner Holiday Party. This year’s Holiday Party was held at the Little America Hotel, in downtown Salt Lake City. The food was great and the atmosphere was festive. It was a nice time for the Tanner employees and their spouses to get together for an evening of fun. Thanks to the Partners for hosting this enjoyable event.
Our entertainment for the evening, Fire on the Mountain (above). They play a blend of folk and bluegrass style features familiar American tunes, close harmonies, and fast instrumentals.
